I'm looking for a lush, green vacation spot somewhere not too far from LA.? - bed and breakfast portland oregon

My BF and I must go. We spend a weekend at a bed and breakfast in a nearby green mountains and spend a day on foot. Hiking, shopping in a small market, etc. We want a very small town feel bad for him, but he must be green.

We live in Los Angeles, and you are looking for something that is not too far, but do not want to go. Most SoCal Deserty is dry, and if we want something else. Yosemite and Sequoia are not green enough for us:) We are looking at Colorado Springs, but you do not know how green, or if you feel small. Has anyone been there?

Other suggestions were Portland and Tahoe, but certainly Arent either ABT. Portland seems to be urban.
